Even though the Red Pine site uses the safest and most cutting-edge environmental technologies, we believe that landfills are only one component of effective solid waste management. That is why the Commission is constantly analyzing all available opportunities to develop a solid waste management strategy aimed at reducing quantities of landfill. Whether through collecting and sorting recyclable materials, organizing workshops on backyard composting and various other programs, we strongly believe that sound waste management is a cause in which the entire population can invest with a view to bequeathing a cleaner environment to future generations.
About Solid Waste
Since 2013, the Acadian Peninsula Regional Service Commission has been responsible for delivering solid waste management services. Formerly known as COGEDES, the solid waste management department handles approximately 25,000 tonnes of waste each year, which are transported to the processing centre in the Regional Municipality of Tracadie industrial park. These 25,000 tonnes of waste are subsequently sent to the Red Pine landfill site in Allardville in the neighbouring region of Chaleur.
